Polymeric sand is a fairly new product and I have not seen any brand that holds up long term. It has some usefulness for pool patios (like pavers, brick or bluestone) but installing it is tricky and repairs are more difficult...also, it will not stand up to frost heaves.

Furthermore, the polymeric sand stays in place because it is glued together and also glued to the stones or bricks it is placed between. it will likely stay glued to itself..but the bricks or stone that it is set amongst–these will not be clean surfaces.

May 06, 2009· Mason sand is fine, forgot the name of it, but they also make a binding sand just for pavers, stays in the joints, won't wash out like regular sand, do a search, haven't done any pavers in awhile, did for years, now just tile.

When laying your base and limestone pavers, there should be a slight slope that will allow water to flow off of the patio. Inspect the soil under the sod you have removed. If the soil is firm you will not have to remove anything more from the area.
Jun 13, 2012· Limestone ??? just get something that works and is inexpensive. I would suggest a base of the gravel and top it off with about an inch of sand. The sand will be easier to level and once you place your pavers, you can tamp them into a level surface with relative ease.
Jul 23, 2008· For a good site on interlocking pavers go to the Interlocking concrete Paving Institute site (, I think). They have great notes on installation. If you are using the larger stepping stones, hand tamper could crack them, but they should also bet set on a sand setting bed.
